Advice to Muslim Youth Who Spend A lot of Time on the Internet During the Days of Ramadan- Shaikh Zayd Ibn Mohammad al-Madkhali

Question: Many young men and young women use the net- internet a lot in the month of Ramadan. So what is your advice to them?

Answer: “The advice to our Muslim brothers and sisters is to turn towards reading the Honorable Quran with its Tafsir. This is because reading with Tafsir is beneficial and important in the life of the Muslim wherein he reading the Speech of Allah and he understands its meaning. If you want to take a benefit from the means of the Internet, like lessons which are given, lectures and seminars which are benefited from, then there is no harm in that because they are beneficial affairs a Muslim needs. As for what has no benefit in it or in it is what is called entertainment, then the month of Ramadan is a month of worship. A month of seriousness and effort just as the Prophet (ﷺ) did and his Honarable Companions. They were serious and made effort in the recitation of the Quran, in gaining understanding of it, in abduance of prayer, and Tahajjud. A person should not drift behind the demands of a soul inclined to evil, from things are [that are] exposed [to it] and have harm in them and no benefit in them”.
