The Ruling on Wearing Clothing That Has A Reference To Haram – Shaikh Ibn ul-Uthaymeen

Question: Oh Virtuous Shaikh, What is the ruling on clothing with graphics that show melodies and music. Is it allowed to wear these and pray in them?

Answer: “Every clothing that has a reference to what is haram, then wearing it is haram. Clothing that has pictures are haram. Those that have pictures of musical instruments are haram. Those that have a call to prostitution are haram. There are T-shirts, as we have heard, that have written on them extremely evil expressions, these are also haram. It is not allowed to wear them. That which has a picture of humans is haram, especially if it is a picture of a disbeliever or a crazy person. This is increased in its prohibition. If we as a people advised a boycott of this [clothing], there would not remain a demand for it amongst us. However, unfortunately, some of us pay others without reflecting and without pondering”.
