The Ruling on a Woman Speaking During the Khutbah? Shaikh Ibn ul-Uthaymeen

Question: Is it allowed for a woman to speak during the Friday Khutbah or is this specific to the one upon whom Jummah is obligatory?

Answer: “speaking during the Friday Khutbah is unlawful for the one who comes to the masjid to hear the Khutbah. As for the one who is in his house or is from those whom the prayer is not obligatory, then there is no harm if he/she speaks. If a man intends to go to a masjid to pray and he hears during his way to this masjid, a khateeb delivering a khutbah in another masjid, then there is no harm for him to speak because he does not intend to hear the Khutbah in that masjid. There is no harm for a woman in her house to speak and the Imam is delivering the khutbah. If she is present in the masjid intending to pray with the people, then it is not allowed for her to speak during the khutbah because she becomes among the attendees of this masjid”.
