The Ruling on Making Sounds While Drinking – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: Has there come a prohibition in the legislation against making a sound when drinking?

Answer: “I do not know, but for a person to have unnecessary burden, then he should not have unnecessary burden. If a sound is made, then Allah does not burden a soul more than it can bear [2: 286]. If he is capable, then it is not necessary for a person to make a sound. In most cases, he should drink without making a sound. However, if this happens to some people, then they are excused”.

[Sharh Sunan Ibn Majah. 244]
