The Ruling on Using the Internet of Another Person Without His Permission – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Questioner: There are some computers that have wireless technology which allows it to enter [someone else’s] internet through another device. So he has the internet and I have this device which I am able to enter [his] internet.

Shaikh : “If he [the owner of the internet] does not allow it and does not agree to that, then a person does not do this. If he allows this and allows everyone who wants to enter the internet [to do so], then there is no problem with this”.

Questioner: If the owner of the internet is able to lock it and no one can use it except for himself. Those who use it say: the origin is that there is no prevention from using it [because he did not lock it]

Shaikh: “As long as the affair is agreed upon for those who want to use it. Then there is no harm for a person using this device to reach the internet”.

Questioner: There is no dispute on whether he is pleased or not pleased. If I have my apartment and my neighbor has an internet connector, I am able to take the internet from him and distribute it…

Shaikh: “No, no. This is not correct, ever. For example, this way of a neighbor taking from another neighbor, this requires something paid in exchange. So he seeks his permission, if he permits him then he does it. If he does not permit him, then he does not come forth with this… In any case, if the owner does not agree, then it is not allowed. It is upon him to seek permission. He does not come forth to benefit from something belonging to his neighbor, except with his permission“.
