The Ruling on Taking Commission – Shaikh Al-Albani

Question: Oh my teacher, there is a man who has a friend who is a businessman. So the businessman said: if you bring me customers, I will give you 5% if they buy products worth 100 dinar. Is this allowed for the man who is a friend of the businessman?

Shaikh: That they buy what?

Questioner: If you bring me customers who buy 100 dinars worth of my product, I will give you five dinars, that is five percent.

Shaikh: If you bring customers who buy 100 dinars worth?

Questioner: Yes

Shaikh: He will give you five dinars?

Questioner: Yes

Shaikh: if you bring customers that buy fifty dinars worth?

Questioner: He will give me a portion oh my teacher, a portion oh my teacher [i.e. proportionate to what is sold]

Shaikh: He takes a portion?

Questioner: Yes

Shaikh: Alright, if he finds 5 percent or a percentage that comes out of his pocket and not the pocket of the customers, then it is fine.

Questioner: Yes

Shaikh: If it comes out from the pocket of the customers and he takes five percent and gives it to the man who brought the customers, then that is not allowed.

Questioner: Ah, Jazakallahu Khairan Oh our Teacher

Shaikh: Wa iyyaka
