The Ruling on a Woman Gathering Her Hair at the Back of the Head – Shaikh al-Albani

Question: What is the ruling on a woman gathering her hair above her neck and at the back of her head such that it gives off a round shape, knowing that this woman when she wears her hijab, the shape of her hair will be seen from behind her head?

Answer: “This is a mistake that many women who wear the hijab fall into in terms of gathering their hair at the back of their head so that it is seen from behind them even if they wear the hijab above it. So verily this opposes the condition from the condition of the hijab, which I have gathered in my book Hijab Mar’atul Muslimah min Kitab was-Sunnah. From these conditions is that the clothing does not reveal the size of the body parts or something from the woman. So like that, it is not allowed for a woman to gather her hair behind her head or on one side of the head such that it becomes apparent to a person even without intending, that this woman has a lot of hair or less hair. It is necessary to let the hair down and not pile it up”
