The Ruling on Celebrating Christmas – Shaikh Salih Fawzaan

Question: With the entering of this Gregorian month, the Christians begin celebrating Christians and their festivals. What is the ruling on participating with them in their celebrations, whether performing it or being present for it or exchanging gifts in it or giving congratulations?

Answer: “All of this is not allowed. It is not allowed to participate with them or be present for it. Allah, the Exalted said:

وَالَّذِينَ لا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَ

And those who do not witness falsehood

[25:72]

That is: do not be present for the festivals of the disbelievers because being present for the celebration is approving it and being pleased with evil. This is not allowed. It is not allowed to congratulate them. All of this is not allowed because these are innovated festivals even in the religion of the Christians. It is not legislated it is only something they innovated”.
