Advice for those who follow soccer matches in Ramadan – Shaikh Salih al-Fawzaan

Question: What is the advice for the youth, and from them students of knowledge, who follow the world cup matches in the last third of the night and in the month of Ramadan there will be matches in the time of salah tul-Isha and Taraweeh?

Answer: It is upon the Muslims to leave off amusement and play, and turn towards the worship of Allah azz wa jall and not to waste their time in following the matches or other than that of amusement and games especially in the blessed month of Ramadan. It is obligatory upon the Muslims generally and the youth specifically because some of them are in love with matches and watching games and this has no benefit, rather in it is harm and in it is waste of time. How can a person waste his precious time and waste the great season, Ramadan, in following the matches. This is a great loss that is not recompensed. So it is upon them to leave off this and turn towards the worship of Allah, especially in the month of Ramadan. So he should benefit with his honorable time in the obedience of Allah and in the night prayer. This is what Allah ordered him and this is what will remain for them and they will find accumulated with Allah azz wa jall.
