Question<\/strong>: We see many Muslim youth, may Allah guide them, wearing bracelets of strange form and color on their hands and they say: we wear them like fashion and adornment and their is no harm in wearing them. So we want your Eminence’s opinion on these bracelets, may Allah reward you. I have enclosed [with this question] a sample bracelet. May Allah facilitate you to what he loves and is pleased with. Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu<\/p>\n

Answer<\/strong>: It is not allowed for males to wear the bracelets mentioned due to what is in them of imitating disbelievers. The Prophet (\ufdfa) said:<\/p>\n

He who copies any people is one of them<\/p>\n

It was reported by Imam Ahmad and Sunan Abu Dawood and other than them. Also due to what is in it from imitating women. There has come a prohibition on that. In the Hadith of Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas radiallahu anhumma who said:<\/p>\n

The Messenger of Allah cursed those men who are effeminate, and women who imitate men<\/p>\n

It was reported by al-Bukhari. It is also prohibited due to the fear of the belief that some people who wear the bracelets have, that the bracelets can defect the evil eye or deflect sickness. So it leads him to Shirk. This is based on the Hadith of ‘Imran ibn Hussain radiallahu anhu who said:<\/p>\n

The Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) once saw a man with a brass ring on his hand and asked him, “What is this?” The man replied, “To overcome the weakness of old age.” He said, “Remove it, for, it can only add to your weakness. Should death overtake you while you are wearing it, you would never succeed.”<\/p>\n

[Reported Ibn Majah and Musnad Ahmad. It was graded Daif by Shaikh Al-Albani in Daif Ibn Majah no. 709]<\/p>\n

It was reported by Imam Ahmad, Ibn Majah and al-Bazzar. It was authenticated by Ibn Hibban, Haakim, and Imam Dhahabi agreed.<\/p>\n
