Question<\/strong>: Is a moderate amount of house furniture Haram? This concerns me because inshallah I will marry a Muslim brother who wants furniture similar [to the furniture] in days of the Messenger(\ufdfa). So this is an affair we differ on?<\/p>\n

Answer<\/strong>: “A moderate amount of furniture is not haram*, rather every good is in the moderation of affairs. Allah says:<\/p>\n

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes)”.<\/p>\n

They [the Companions] were not pleased with a lot of furniture in their houses. They were pleased with what they could accommodate their children with<\/p>\n

[Reported by al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Imaan no. 6165. The Muhaqiq Mukhtaar Ahmad an-Nadwi said: “Its chain has men that are Thiqaat (reliable). I did not find this narration with other than the author”. It is also reported in Tarikh Yahya Ibn Ma’een as reported by ad-Doori no. 2927 with a similar chain]<\/p>\n
