The Ruling on Naming Women Imaan, Islaam, and Taqwa – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: What is the ruling on naming women Imaan, Islaam, and Taqwa?

Answer: “There appears not to be any harm in the likes of these names because the praise which is prohibited is in regards to piety. That is: she is described to be pious. As for her being named names like these, then she is not described as so. If they are left off and names which do not have any problems are chosen, that is better. Such as Fatima, Zaynab, and Khadijah. There is no one who will ask about the ruling regarding these names because the affair is clear. Therefore, what has an issue, then it is upon a person to leave it off if they are uncertain”.
