Ruling on Asking Allah For knowledge like the Knowledge of Shaikh-ul-Islam – Shaikh Yahya ibn Ali al-Hajoori

Question: If a person supplicates to his Lord, the Exalted, the One Capable of all things, to make him more knowledgeable than Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah. Is this considered transgression in supplication?

Answer: This is not transgression in supplication.

Allah says:

وَمَا كَانَ عَطَاءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا

To each these as well as those We bestow from the Bounties of your Lord. And the Bounties of your Lord can never be forbidden.

And Allah says:

ذَلِكَ فَضْلُ اللهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ

That is the Grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He pleases. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.
