The Ruling on Making Multiple Umrahs In One Travel – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Question: Some people come from a far place to perform Umrah in Makkah. They put on the Ihram and make Umrah. Then they go to Tan’eem and announce another Umrah. That is: they perform many umrahs. So how about this?

Answer: “This, may Allah bless you, is from the innovations in the religion of Allah. This is because a person is not more eager than the Prophet (ﷺ) nor his Companions (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), as you all know, entered Makkah in the conquest of Makkah at the end of Ramadan and he stayed there for nineteen days in Makkah. He did not leave to Tan’eem to make ihram for Umrah and likewise his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). So repeating Umrah in one travel is innovation. It is said to the people: If you love to earn rewards, then making Tawaf around the Ka’bah is better for you than to go out to Tan’eem. Then we say: Make Tawaf around the Ka’bah if it is not Hajj season for verily in Hajj season, the first Tawaf is sufficient for you.  Leave the space for Tawaf for those who need it. So like this we find the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in all his lifetime did not repeat Tawaf nor went out to Tan’eem to perform his umrah. We find in his farewall Hajj, he did not make Tawaf except for the rites only: the Tawaf al-Qudum, Tawaf al-Ifaadah, and Tawaf al-Wadaa’. From what is well known is that we are not more eager for the obedience of Allah than the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with him).

So we say: Make things easier for yourself and suffice with one Umrah. If you intend on leaving Makkah, then perform the farwell Tawaf. All praise is due to Allah”
