The Ruling on Accepting a Gift of a Non-Muslim on Their Festival – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

The Scholars differed regarding the issue if a non-Muslim gives you a gift on the occasion of their festival, is it allowed for you to accept it or is it not allowed? Some of the Scholars said: It is not allowed for you to accept their gifts on their festivals because it is a sign of being pleased with it. Some of them said: there is no harm in that. In any case, if there is no Legislated prohibition in that which is: that the one giving the gift does not belief that you are pleased with what they are upon, then there is no harm in accepting it. Otherwise, what is more deserving is to not accept it” [Majmoo’ Fataawa wa Rasaail (3/33)]
