Does the Mu’adhin Break His Fast Before Making the Adhan or After it? – Shaikh Muqbil bin Haadi al-Wadi’ee

Question: Is it recommended for the mu’adhin to break the fast before the adhan knowing that the laymen say it is necessary that he breaks the fast before the adhan?

Answer: “If he breaks the fast before he makes the adhan, then that is better.  For the time has entered:

لا تزالُ أُمِّتِي بخيرِ ما عَجَّلُوا الإفطارَ وأخَّرُوا السُّحورَ

“My Ummah will continue to be good as long as they hasten to break the fast and delay the suhur”

[Reported by Musnad Ahmad (35/241) on the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him)]

If he does not break his fast until after he makes adhan, then the affair is spacious. There is no harm in that. There is nothing that prohibits it” .
