The Ruling on Reciting A Juz in Taraweeh Every Night – Shaikh Muqbil bin Haadi a-Wad’iee

Question: We read a Juz everyday in Taraweeh as a fixed amount. Does this action reach the level of innovation? What is the ruling on giving some admonishments between the rak’aat of Taraweeh?

Answer: “If the admonishments are not continuous, then there is no harm.  [As for] reading a Juz or two Juz or three Juz, then what is more deserving is for a person to read [an amount] in accordance to his enthusiasm. In order that he does not specific with the [amount mentioned]. The Prophet (ﷺ) did not used to specify with this [amount]. It has come that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to study the Quran with Jibreel [Bukhari (no. 5066) and Muslim (no. 1400)]. However, the meaning is not that he studied it in prayer. In every year he would study it once, once in Ramadan. In the year in which his death was near, he studied it twice”.
