Shaikh Abul-Yamaan ‘Adnan al-Masqari (may Allah preserve him) wrote:
“Chapter: Supplication for the one who does good towards you.
1. May Allah reward you with good
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I was present with my father when he was wounded. People praised him and said: ‘May Allah reward you with good” [Muslim no. 1823 ]
Aisha said, “I borrowed a necklace from Asma’ and it was lost. So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) sent a man to search for it and he found it. Then the time of the prayer became due and there was no water. They prayed (without ablution) and informed Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) about it, so the verse of Tayammum was revealed.” Usaid bin Hudair said to `Aisha, “May Allah reward you. By Allah, whenever anything happened which you did not like, Allah brought good for you and for the Muslims in that.” [al-Bukhari no. 336]
2. May Allah preserve you ( حَفِظَكَ اللَّهُ)
Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us and said: You would travel In the evening and the night till (God willing) you would come in the morning to a place of water. So the people traveled (self absorbed) without paying any heed to one another, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) also traveled till It was midnight. I was by his side. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to doze and leaned (to one side) of his camel. I came to him and I lent him support without awaking him till he sat poised on his ride. He went on travelling till a major part of the night was over and (he again) leaned (to one side) of his camel. I supported him without awaking him till he sat” straight on his ride. and then traveled till it was near dawn. He (again) leaned which was far more inclined than the two earlier leanings and he was about to fall down. So I came to him and supported him and he lifted his head and said; Who is this? I said: it is Abu Qatadah. He (the Prophet again) said: Since how long have you been travelling along with me like this? I said: I have been travelling in this very state since the night. He said: ‘May Allah preserve you, as you have preserved His Prophet (ﷺ) (from falling down)'” [Muslim no. 681]
[As-Saheeh al-Muntaqa min Adhkaar al-Mustafaa (pg. 226-228)]
Imam an-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in explanation of the above Hadith: “In the Hadith is the evidence for the recommendation to supplicate for the one who does good to you and there is another well-known authentic Hadith regarding it” [Sharh Saheeh Muslim (5/185)]
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:”The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate for the one who did good to him with that which he would love and with what is appropriate”. Then he mentioned: “And when Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) supported him during his travel at night when he was inclining from his riding beast, he said to him: ‘May Allah preserve you, as you have preserved His Prophet (ﷺ) (from falling down)‘” [Zaad al-Ma’ad (2/424)]
