Ruling on Those Who Do not Distinguish Between Pronouncing the Letter (الضاد ) and the Letter (الظاء) – Shaikh Bin Baz

Question: He asks about those who do not distinguish between pronouncing the letter (الضاد ) and the letter (الظاء). They want to ask for your guidance. Is this action of their’s considered a mistake in recitation or not?

Answer: “many people are not able to distinguish between the letter (الضاد ) and the letter (الظاء). So he will be forgiven for that and that will not harm him. His recitation is correct and his prayer is correct, all praise is due to Allah. This is because Allah, the Exalted said:

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

So keep your duty to Allah and fear Him as much as you can

[64:16]

This is a comprehensive principle. He, the Exalted says:

لاَ يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا

Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope.

[2:286]

And He said:

يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلاَ يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ

Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you.

[2:185]

Hafidh Ibn Kathir rahimahullah clarified this issue in his Tafsir book and he mentioned that the most correct statement of the people of knowledge is tolerance in that [issue] and that there is no blame in that”.
