The Ruling on Wiping the Hands on the Face After Supplication – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Question: What is the ruling of wiping the hands on the face after supplication?

Answer: “Wiping the face with the hands after supplication is not prescribed, because the Ahadith reported in that are weak until Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said: they cannot be used to establish evidence. If we are not certain or most likely think this is prescribed then its more deserving to be abandoned  because legislation is not affirmed by pure opinion unless the opinion is most likely [ie. that something is correct]

So that which I see is that wiping the face with the hands after supplication is not the Sunnah and the Prophet (ﷺ) as is well known made supplication in the Friday Khutbah for the Rain prayer and raised his hands and it is not reported he wiped them on his face. Like that, in the number of Ahaadith that have come from the Prophet (ﷺ) that he made supplication and raised his hands, it is not affirmed that he wiped his face”
