Question: What is the ruling on using the name Taha?
Answer: “It is from the muqata’aat, the letters that come at the beginning of the surahs. It is not from the names of the Messenger (ﷺ) . Not Taha nor Yasin. The names of the Prophet (ﷺ) are derived from the Names of Allah, derivatives that indicate meaning. It comes at the beginning of surah Taha:
طه – مَآ أَنَزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَى
Ta-Ha. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] We have not sent down the Quran unto you (O Muhammad ) to cause you distress, [201-2].
It is not a name from the names of the Messenger (ﷺ) . Verily they are two letters from the muqata’aat. Any name that does not have anything prohibited in it can be used. However, anything that is used that requires a person to ask: is it correct or not correct, what is more deserving is to name with a name that does not require questioning”.
