The Ruling on a Worker Receiving His Salary at the End of the Month – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

‏ أَعْطُوا الأَجِيرَ أَجْرَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجِفَّ عَرَقُه

“Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries”.

[Saheeh Ibn Majah no. 1995]

Question: Is this Hadith an obligation because most workers receive their salary at the end of every month?

Answer: “There is no harm in this. If they agree to the salary at the end of the month, then they are given their salary at the end of the month. If the work is daily, then he is given the salary for the day, everyday. If he agrees to the end  month, but he has a need to fulfill , then he is given it [early]. Otherwise he is given it at the end of the month. However, it is not delayed after the month just like how it is not delayed from the end of the day, if he is a daily worker. If he is a monthly worker, then it is not delayed from the end of the month, just like how it is not delayed from the end of day if he is a daily worker” .
