Question: Is it from Shuhrah [clothing worn to gain fame] today to roll up the thawb severely until the middle of the shins? Is it correct to use as evidence what some of the Salaf* said that: Shuhra today is rolling up the lower garments?
Answer: “Something that came in the Sunnah is not said to be Shuhra”
[Sharh Sunan Tirmidhi no. 269]
* Translator’s Note: An example of one such narration is:
On the authority of Ma’mar who said: I criticized Ayyub [as-Sakhtiyaani] for his long Qamees. He said: “verily Shuhra in the past used to be in long clothing and today it is in rolling up [the lower garment]”
