The Ruling on Wasting Electricity – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Question: [Some people] turn on the lights when departing and then leave them lit and go. And some others turn on a complete row of lights at the back. If you speak to them, they say: “It is not for you to enter” and it is only one or two people who turn on the row of lights.

Answer: “In any case, this is a trust. May Allah bless you. It is obligatory [that a person] not use the lights except what he needs. The one who needs it, then there is no harm. Otherwise, he does not turn it on”
