Question: With the development of modern means of communication, from them the internet, some Muslims have taken advantage of these means to call to Allah. Muslims enter websites [belonging] to the Jews, Christians, and other than them or in Yahoo groups, Hotmail, or Google to send mass messages to every member of the website or group. Men, women, and children are part of these groups. The text of the message is in English or the language of the website or group. The Muslims present to them a summary of Islam and they are given websites to learn about it. So what is the ruling on the one who does this action? May Allah bless you.
Answer: “Corresponding with the disbelievers to call them to Islam is a desired affair. Allah, the Exalted said:
قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَى كَلِمَةٍ سَوَاءٍ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُولُوا اشْهَدُوا بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ
Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.”[3:64]
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to go to the markets of Dhil-Majinnah and Dhil-Majaaz and call the polytheists saying:
قولوا لا اله الا الله تفلحوا
Say: La ilah illa Allah (there is no God worthy of worship except Allah) and you will be successful
[Saheeh Musnad no. 516]
Whether you send the message to individuals or groups of men or women. Calling to Islam is inclusive. Allah, the Exalted said:
قُلْ أَيُّ شَيْءٍ أَكْبَرُ شَهَادَةً قُلِ اللهُ شَهِيدٌ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَأُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنُ لِأُنذِرَكُمْ بِهِ وَمَنْ بَلَغَ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ اللهِ آلِهَةً أُخْرَى قُلْ لا أَشْهَدُ قُلْ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَإِنَّنِي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ
Say (O Muhammad): “What thing is the most great in witness?” Say: “Allah (the Most Great!) is Witness between me and you; this Quran has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach. Can you verily bear witness that besides Allah there are other aliha (gods)?” Say “I bear no (such) witness!” Say: “But in truth He (Allah) is the only one Ilah (God). And truly I am innocent of what you join in worship with Him [6:19]
So like that, it is desired due to what has preceded of evidences.
