Shaikh al-Albani rahimahullah said:
“Every position which the hands are raised have two forms [of doing so] without specifying [this for] a position. So [for] the opening Takbir or the Takbir when going into ruku’ or other than that, either he raises the hands to his ears without touching the earlobes as some of those who are afflicted with satanic whispers do. Or he lowers them a little to the level of the top of the shoulders. So which ever of them he does, he has come with the Sunnah. The best is to do this one sometimes and that one sometimes“.
[Ashritah al-Mutafarriqah no. 167]
Translator’s Note:
Shaikh al-Albani rahimahullah also said:
“Note: Touching the earlobes with the thumbs [while raising the hands in Takbir] has not been reported from the Prophet (ﷺ). So touching them is an innovation or a satanic whisper. The Sunnah is to align the ears or shoulders with the two palms only” [Mishkaat al-Masaabih (1/252)].
