The Ruling on Giving the Zakat al-Fitr in the Form of Money to Charitable Organizations – Shaikh Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Wadi’ee

Question: The Islamic charitable organizations in Canada collect money for Zakatul-Fitr with the argument that this money will be sent to the poor countries. So what is the ruling on this?

Answer: “If you find there [in Canada] someone from the Muslims who is deserving of that [Zakatul-Fitr], then he is more deserving of it. The people of a land are more deserving of their fruit. If you do not find [such], then there is no harm in that inshallah [i.e. sending it to poorer countries]”
Questioner: Do they give it as money or what [do they do]?

Shaikh: “They send it, even as money, to a trustworthy man who will buy for everyone a Saa’ of grain or raisin or dates or cottage cheese. [That was ] a good notification. May Allah bless you”.
