Question: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The most stingy of those who are stingy is the one whom I am mentioned in his presence and he does not send salat upon me”. The questioner says: I am in the prayer between magrhib and isha and the radio is near me and I pray next to the radio channel “The call of Islam”. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is mentioned next to me, that is his description, and I am in the prayer. So do I send salat upon him during the prayer or does that nullify my prayer? Benefit me, may Allah benefit you
Answer: “There is no harm in that. If you send salat in your prayer, there is no harm. If his mention passes (ﷺ), send salam upon him, there is no harm:
اللهم صل عليه
Oh Allah send blessings upon him
It comes in the authentic Saheeh which Jibreel (may peace be upon him) said:
رغم أنف امرئ ذكرت عنده فلم يصلِّ عليك
May he be humiliated the person who you are mentioned in his presence and he does not send greetings upon you [Saheeh Tirmidhi no. 3545]
So sending salat upon the Prophet (ﷺ) is Legislated when he (ﷺ) is mentioned. Some of the people of knowledge say it is obligatory. Like this, from the detestable stinginess is not sending greetings upon him. The aforementioned Hadith [in the question] has an origin. From the detestable stinginess is for the mention of the Prophet (ﷺ) to pass a person and he does not send salat upon him (ﷺ). So the Sunnah of the believer is that if he hears the mention of the Prophet, to send salat upon him (ﷺ). Likewise in prayer, in the end of the prayer and in the first tashahudd, he sends blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ). Likewise on the day of Jummah he increases in the mention of the Prophet and likewise after the adhan he sends blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ). He says:
اللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة
O Allah, Rubb of this perfect call (Da’wah) [Bukhari no. 243]
Until the end. It is legislated to send salat upon the Prophet (ﷺ) always. In the authentic Hadith:
من صلى علي واحدة صلى الله عليه بها عشراً
Whoever sends one salat upon me, Allah sends salat upon him ten times [Saheeh Jami no. 6358]
May Allah reward you”.
