Question: Is the reward established for the one who feeds a fasting person after the fasting person breaks his fast with dates and water?
Answer: Allah says:
And whatever of good (deeds that Allah loves) you send forth for yourselves before you
[2:110]
And He says:
And do good that you may be successful.
[22:77]
And He says:
So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.
[99: 7-8]
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
There is a reward for service to every living animal.
[Reported by Al-Bukhari no.2363 and Muslim no. 2244]
And the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast with, then for his is the same reward as his (the fasting person’s), without anything being diminished from the reward of the fasting person
[Reported by Tirmidhi no. 807]
These evidences prove that if he feeds him, he is rewarded whether he eats with him dates and water or he does not eat. If he eats with him, that is better and is from the complete iftar if he needs that. Otherwise, if Allah wills he will not waste his reward. The evidences mentioned include it [this action] and he has the reward similar to the fasting person. If more than one person feeds a fasting person, then for them is that [reward]. He, the exalted, say:
And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.
