Principles for Using Social Media- Shaikh Salih al-Fawzaan

Question: The questioner asks about the principles in dealing with the current social media and a specific advise to the students of knowledge about dealing with this issue and what is related to sending religious messages [on social media] or spreading rumors that are not verified?

Answer: ” No doubt, social media has varied and evolved. It is a double-edged sword: whoever uses it for good will benefit from it and whoever uses it for evil will harm himself and others. It is a double-edged sword. Alright, who will distinguish for us the end that is good from the end that is evil? It is a must to return this affair to the people of knowledge. It will not benefit to use these means without understanding and knowledge such as to take what benefits and leave what is harmful. In it [social media] is a lot of desecration and spreading a lot of defamation of Muslims in other than its name: in the name of detesting evil. The one who has knowledge and insight, he can take what benefits and leave what is harmful. The one who does not have insight, then let him avoid it, stay away from it, let him give his farewell greetings to the benefit”.
