The Ruling on a Companion Who is Not Known Except Through a Weak Chain of Narration – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: What is the ruling of a Companion who does not have except one Hadith and the chain is not authenticate from him and he is not mentioned in the books that mention the Companions (may Allah have mercy upon them)?

Answer: “The Hadith is not affirmed from him if it does not come except from a weak chain. However, radiallahu anhu is said for him. Perhaps he may be a Companion. Companionship leads to asking Allah to be pleased with them, having mercy upon them, making supplication for them, and believing they are the best of people. This is what results [from being a Companion]. As for affirming that he is a Companion, then that needs an authentic chain”.
