The Ruling on Being Absent From the Family for One Year due to Work – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Question: I am married and I left my wife with my family in the house of my wife. I traveled to the Arab land to make provisions and my duration of travel extended to an entire year. So is this prohibited?

Answer: “if your travel to a land which you want to gain the provisions of Allah, then this travel is due to a need and you are excused. Your leaving your wife and family in this condition is blameless. However, it is necessary your wife is in a safe place and you do not fear for her or your children. If she is not in a safe place, then it is obligatory upon you to take her with you if possible or that you stay in your land until your family and children are safe. The affair all returns to the need and the pleasure of the wife with that. However, with the foundational condition is that your family and children are safe”.
