The Ruling on Placing a Deaf Man as the Imam of the Daily Prayers – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: Is it correct to place a deaf person as the Imam of the daily prayers?

Answer: ” A deaf Imam has deficiency because if something occurs like a mistake or the likes, if the people inform him, then he cannot hear them or respond to them. So he will be in one valley and they will be in another valley. So the likes of him is not fit to be the Imam of the daily prayers. It is more deserving to place a person who can hear the people [when they correct him] if a mistake occurs from him or forgetfulness”.
