Question: I bought a cell phone then returned it to its owner and exchange it for another. Does this enter into [the prohibition] of two transactions in one*?
Answer: “No. If you buy a cell phone and it is under you ownership. Then you go to the owner and agree to exchange it for another cell phone, either of the same type or if it is another type of higher price and you pay the difference, then there is no harm”.
[Sharh Sunan Tirmidhi no. 145]
* Translator’s Note: Abu Hurairah radiallahu Anhu said:
نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن بيعتين في بيعة
“The Messenger of Allah forbade two transactions in one”.
