The Ruling on Placing Devices on the Door that Remind You of Allah – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: There has appeared on the market devices that are placed on the door. When the door is opened, these devices have a recorded voice that reminds the one entering to remember Allah. For example: remember Allah, do not forget Allah, and put your trust in Allah. What is the ruling on placing these devices at the door of the house? Is this from innovation in the religion?

Answer: “This increases the evidence against a person. From the people is the one who hears this speech and does not say this speech. They do not say anything. This is similar to hanging wooden tablet with Ahaadith on it, which does not stir the hair of a person [a proverb meaning does not affect a person]. So it increases the evidence against a person, such that, he sees and hears something, then does not say/do so. Likewise is what is written on some doors in terms of remembrance of Allah. It is not necessary. People know these things [remembrances] from learning and perform them due to learning. As for something written, it remains written and it is not benefited from and it becomes an increase in the evidence against a person”
