Question: Here with us in Europe, when the men go out to the Eid prayer they make Takbir and say La ilaha illah Allah until they reach the masjid. Is this action reported from the Prophet (ﷺ):
Answer: “Yes, Takbir on the day of Eid and the night of Eid is legislated. Allah mentions that in surah al-Baqarah:
وَلِتُكْمِلُواْ الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ
(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah [i.e. to say Takbir (Allahu-Akbar; Allah is the Most Great) on seeing the crescent of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal] for having guided you
