Praying Two Rakats at Home After the Eid Prayer

Shaikh al-Albani rahimahullah writes:

“In this chapter is the Hadith from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri with the wording:

كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يصلى قبل العيد شيئاً , فإذا رجع إلى منزله صلى ركعتين

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not pray before the ‘Eid prayer, but when he went back to his house he would pray two Rak’ah

Reported by Ibn Majah (1293), Ahmad (3/28,40), al-Haakim (1/297) and Bayhaqi has the second half of the narration. Hakim said: its chain is Saheeh and Dhahabi agreed.

I (Al-Albani) say: It is only Hasan for verily Ibn Aqeel has some speech regarding his memory. So like that, Hafidh Ibn Hajr said in Bulugh al-Maram and Busayri in az-Zawaaid (2/80): it’s chain is Hasan.

The way to combine between these Ahaadith that preceded is that the denial of praying after Eid is only a denial to pray in the musallah of Eid as Hafidh Ibn Hajr mentioned in al-Talkhees pg. 144. And Allah Know Best”

[Irwaa al-Ghalil (3/100)]
Imam as-San’aani rahimahullah mentioned:

In this Hadith is the legislation to pray Two Rakat after Eid in the house…

[Subul as-Salam Sharh Bulugh al-Maram (2/67)]

Shaikh Salih al-Fawzan hafidhuhallah said:

“…As for if he returns home, he can pray two rakat if he wills as the Prophet (ﷺ) did. As for the place of the prayer, he does not pray anything before or after. Verily he suffices with eid prayer
