Question: A woman asks: verily from their custom is that if one of them gives birth to a child and it begins to walk, they make this occasion a party and call the neighbors. And it is an occasion that is not customary. In this party, the mother scatters sweets over the head of the child as a good fortune, making apparent joy, and happiness. So what is the ruling on this party? And is a party for when the children pass school similar to this?
Answer: “As for showing joy in occasions which make you pleased, then there is no harm in that. He can do what is possible with the condition that it does not include what is prohibited or [is attached to] a belief. This is because this is from the natural affairs which the natural disposition calls to. Everyone is happy in occasions when something like this occurs and I do not see any harm in this”.
