[Benefit] Knowledge is a Gift – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

Narrated `Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila:

Ka`b bin ‘Ujra met me and said, “Shall I give you a gift? Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and we said, ‘O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ! We know how to greet you; but how to send ‘Salat’ upon you? He said, ‘Say: Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala `Ali Muhammadin, kama sal-laita ‘ala all Ibrahima innaka Hamidun Majid. Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala all Muhammadin, kama barakta ‘ala all Ibrahima, innaka Hamidun Majid [Bukhari no. 6357]

Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen rahimahullah said explaining this:

In the Hadith of K’ab ibn Ujrah is evidence that knowledge, if a person conveys it to someone, then this is a gift. By Allah, it is from the best of gifts. Better than wealth:

Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. [58:11]

And wealth was not mentioned. So the gift of knowledge is better than the gift of wealth. So like this, he (K’ab) said: Shall I give you a gift
