Is One Who is Afflicted With Alzheimer’s Considered Legally Responsible? Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Hizaam

Question: The female questioner asks: Does memory loss and being afflicted with Alzheimer’s by one who is old in age enter him into the ruling of one who is insane, in terms of the legal responsibility dropping off him?

Answer: ” If he reaches an extent where he does not know the meaning of worship nor is he aware of worship, then yes he becomes like one who is insane. As for if he is aware, then he is taught. He is reminded every time to pray and fast, if he is capable of that”.
